Our museums grow out of Scotland's distinctive and ancient traditions of higher education, inspiring explorers, scientists, scholars, artists and others in almost every field of endeavour. They play an increasingly important role in the cultural life of the nation.

1.8 million items - 32% of Scotland's science history, 31% of its coins & medals, 24% of fine art, 20% of natural science, 18% of world culture
- Collections held by five of our members, including the entire holdings of the Universities of Aberdeen and Glasgow, are Recognised as nationally important
- 243 higher education courses relied on our collections and expertise in 2006-07
- 19,000 school pupils participated in museum activities in 2006-07

The organisation UMiS exists to foster the preservation,
care and interpretation of historical and cultural collections in Scottish
Universities, and to promote the interests of the collections.
The current office bearers are as follows:
