1. Minutes

Minutes of the committee meeting on 8th May 2003 were approved, with minor changes to numbering.

2. Matters arising

2.3 Advocacy document

Following opposition from some UMG members, publication has been postponed to January 2004.

2.4 Contact list

The current contact list (principally representatives of each member institution, UMIS office bearers) is maintained as a JISCMAIL list. Messages can be sent to umis@jiscmail.ac.uk

2.5 UMG Committee

Matthew Jarron and Peter Trowles have been nominated for membership of the UMG committee.

2.9 Membership

Jim Fiddes (Robert Gordon), Joan Penman (Abertay) and Dawn Kemp (RCSE) have all expressed an interest in joining UMIS.

3. Conference

Jacky MacBeath has offered to host the 2004 conference in Edinburgh. It was agreed to discuss possible topics at the AGM, noting that topics must be relevant to the broader museum community in Scotland and beyond. It may be possible to combine the AGM with the conference, possibly in November.

4. Membership fee

It was agreed that the committee should recommend to the AGM that the membership fee be maintained at £50 per institution. While the conference had not resulted in major costs for UMIS, it was agreed that there should be sufficient funds to underwrite the conference. It was noted that the costs of the website were absorbed by Dundee.

5. Newsletter and web site

It was agreed that the web was still the best means of publishing news from members, though it was noted that members were not submitting reports. It was agreed that future committee meetings would include reports from members, which could then be web-mounted. It was also agreed to web-mount minutes of meetings and provide a link to the jiscmail archive from the web site.

6. Next meeting

No date for the next meeting was set.
