Description

Bernat Klein was a Serbian textile designer and painter who in 1952 established Colourcraft (Gala) Ltd, a weaving centre in Galashiels. He produced innovative textiles that attracted the attention of Coco Chanel who used his fabrics for her spring collection in 1962. He went on to work with a range of haute couture designers before resigning and re-establishing himself in the 1970s with his own clothing collections – from which this kaftan, made of yellow diolen (a polyester fabric tougher than fibreglass), is taken.
