Description

The annual Burns Night festivities are a welcome excuse for music and dancing – so here are a set of bagpipes that belonged to Robert (Bobby) Watson (1914-1997) the acclaimed Highland dancer and teacher. He began Highland dancing at the age of two and went on to win numerous awards, including the world championship. He established his own dance school, where he taught until a year before his death. He served as a judge at the Braemar Royal Highland Games for over 50 years.

His name is perhaps best known through his frequent television appearances on ‘The White Heather Club’ and ‘The Kilt is my Delight’. The University of Aberdeen collections include an extensive archive of Bobby Watson’s papers (GB 231 MS 3605) as well as museum objects.
