Nothing says Scotland more than tartan, so we felt that including it in our St Andrews collection was fitting.
This particular tartan is part of a sample book held by The Glasgow School of Art Archives & Collections. This particular sample book (c.1930s-1950s) was from Donald Brothers Ltd of Dundee, who were known for their significant contribution to the design of furnishing textiles. The fabric itself was manufactured by N & N Lockhart and Sons Ltd of Kirkcaldy.
The book contains 42 Jacquard damask linen samples in 25 designs including plain weaves, star, geometric and tartan designs – some designs are repeated in different colour versions. It is one of many such sample books held by the GSA Archives.
